Arts and Crafts
Tour 4, available 21st - 26th March 2010 and 26th September - 1st October 2010
A five night tour looking at textiles, crafts and buildings. On this tour we get to hear from and talk to, a wealth of experts on a wide ranging variety of subjects.
Dr Brenda King shares her knowledge of Leek Embroideries and the Wardle Family. Cathryn Walton discusses her research on Leek Embroiderers and takes us on a architectural walk in Leek. Jacqui Hyman teaches us about looking after and preserving textiles and we go on a trip to view textiles she has restored. Frances Pritchard at The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester shows us behind the scenes and introduces us to a treasure trove of Arts and Crafts textiles. Kate Dibble shows us to the gothic splendour of Manchester Town Hall, murals by Ford Maddox Brown and their valuable textiles. Finally, Sir Richard and Lady Anne Baker Wilbraham let us into their private home, Rode Hall, to share with us their amazing collection of lace and shawls.
This is a textile-holic fantasy! If you take no other tour, this is the one, four days of experts, learning about and viewing textiles that are not accessible as a general member of the public.
